Meditating on the first reading from1John chapter 5 gives us a sense of confidence that God hears our prayers as in Jesus' promises in John 15:7 (...you may ask what you will and you shall get it). John 16:24 (ask and you will receive) and 1John 3:22 (...whatever we may ask him, we shall receive.)

This presupposes we have a close and intimate relationship with God as in John 15:7 (if you remain in me and my words in you) and 1John 3:22 (...because we keep his commandments...). This relationship also involves an attitude of humility like of John the Baptist - "he must grow greater, I must grow smaller". Is this the way we relate with Jesus? Whatever we think, say and do, is it out of 'pure love' of God or otherwise? We need to examine closely the motivations that move us into actions especially in charitable activities. Do we claim self-glory for our successes and forget about Jesus' role in our lives?

As regards 'sin' the first reading presents Jesus as Saviour to the sinners who have separated themselves from the community. How do we respond to this in our community? Have they been judgemental or has there been compassion shown?

Lord, thank You for listening to our prayers. Continue to help us to be compassionate like You and to be Your true and humble servants.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That all men and women may recognise that they are members of God's one family and end wars, injustice and discrimination among themselves.
