God has not merely commanded us about how we should live in order to enter eternal life. He has educated us so that our obedience will be an intelligent and responsible obedience. We can understand both why and how we should do what God asks of us. This, too, marked the life of Jesus. While He called for a prompt and ready response to His call, He took great pains to educate us with God's truth. During Lent, the Church expects us to prepare for Easter by fostering a spirit of repentance. In order to help us do this more effectively, our Lenten readings throughout the first three weeks present us with the revelation of important truths that we need in order to cultivate a deeper spiritual life. Thus the Prophet Isaiah reveals to us the power of God's word, accomplishing what God intends. Jesus teaches us other divine words, this time in the form of the Our Father. Since Jesus gave us this prayer, we must look upon it as a gift. It is a gift of God's word to us. Hence, if we pray it earnestly and honestly, it will accomplish in us God's holy will, achieving the end for which Jesus gave it.
Father in heaven, may Your word accomplish in us its saving and sanctifying purpose.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
