When the planes crashed into the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001 and thousands died, people asked: Where was God? Why them and not me? When even greater numbers were buried alive in Iran's earthquake, people could ask the same question. Were those New Yorkers the only sinners in the city being punished by God? Those victims in Bam?
The Gospel mentions two tragic events that happened in Jesus' time. These incidents had nothing to do with sin or God's anger. They were either natural calamities or the work of fellow humans. We can ask: how many of those people were ready to meet their Lord? But for us there is a more pressing question: Am I ready? Very few of us do not know of people who were taken from us suddenly. If it could happen to them, it can happen to me. There is no need for fear or anxiety. I just try to live each day, each moment of every day seeking and finding God in every single experience.
Teach me, Lord, how to seek and find You in all things.

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
