Both Philip and James are cited in the readings. James is mentioned explicitly as one of those to whom the Risen Jesus appeared. Philip is the naive one among the disciples but today he asks an important question. Jesus speaks frequently about His Father. Philip has had enough. "Don't just talk about the Father show him to us!" "Philip, when you see me, you see the Father." That is the role of Jesus - to help us to understand the invisible God by being God in human form. But in today's Gospel Jesus says more. As He prepares to return to His Father, He passes on His mission to His followers. They will be able to do the very same things that Jesus did - and even more, because they will be many in number and will reach places and people Jesus never could reach. As a follower of Jesus, I am part of this mission. Which of Jesus' works am I doing? How is God seen in my life?
Help me, Lord, to see You in every person and experience of this day.

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
