Today is a day of endings. It is the last weekday of the Easter season and we have the final readings from the Acts of the Apostles and from John's gospel. Paul is in Rome under house arrest but has freedom to preach the Gospel. He writes to the local Jewish leaders that he was well disposed towards them. The epilogue paints him in a characteristic pose that captures the whole of his career, 'preaching the kingdom of God and teaching boldly about the Lord Jesus'.

For Luke, the Christians have reached their goal - the Gospel is being preached in the very heart of the Roman empire and, thus, of the world. In fact, the Christian faith had a long way to go until it reached the furthest corners of the whole earth and was proclaimed to "all nations".

Let us today thank those who brought the Way of Christ into our lives and let us be aware of our respon- sibility to do the same for others.

Lord, let the love we have been celebrating in this Easter season be put into practice in our daily lives.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the family - founded on the marriage of a man and a woman - may be recognized as the basic cell of human society.
