The assistance given by the Samaritan should be examined carefully. Not only did he help the person who had been robbed and left for dead but he also took the extra step of providing for everything that he would need to get back on his feet again. It is the follow up that is so important when we try to be of assistance to other people. The giving of time, energy and material resources all take something from us. It is when we do all these things together in order to help the other person that we are following the example of the Good Samaritan. As Christians we would all like to think that we would respond in a similar fashion to the Samaritan. Most of us would certainly try to do a kind deed and help our neighbours if we could. The challenge also is to come to the assistance of people of other cultures and races. Too often we are like the priest and Levite and turn the other way because we either do not understand the culture so we don't know why the person is suffering, or it is easier just not to become involved. It takes courage to model ourselves on the Good Samaritan. However, if we truly follow the teachings of Jesus we could be just like him. Please God, we'll be equal to the task

Lord, give us a compassionate heart so that we are one with You and with those who suffer.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, firm in their faith, Christians may be eager to dialogue with those who belong to another religious tradition.
