Both of today's readings call us to vigilance. Paul, in the first reading recognizes that he is an unworthy servant yet chosen by God. He is aware of the precious gift of faith that he has received and that he is to pass on to others. This he can only do with God's grace.

In the Gospel reading we are called to be faithful servants and to be responsible and careful in carrying out the tasks entrusted to us. We do this not because we are being observed but out of our own sense of duty and appreciation for all we have received.

For those in a position of authority an even greater degree of accountability will be expected of them.

All I have is a gift from God, my health, my family, my gifts and talents and my possessions. How do I care for these? How do I use them? How do I treat others under my care? These are good questions to reflect on today. We too need God's help to carry out our own mission in life, whatever that may be. We too will be asked to give an account of our stewardship.

Lord, thank You for the gifts You have given me and grant me the grace to use these gifts well in Your service.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, firm in their faith, Christians may be eager to dialogue with those who belong to another religious tradition.
