Today's passage from Ephesians recalls for us how in John's Gospel Jesus warns of the dangers of walking in the darkness and suggests that those who do evil shun the light lest their evil deeds be exposed to view. Ephesians tells us that since we are children of the light we must walk in the way of love, showing kindness, forgiveness and tenderness to one another. We have to shun the way of impurity and covetousness.

Psalm 1 continues the theme of two ways, the way of righteousness and the way of wickedness. It recalls passages in Deuteronomy (11:26-31; 26:16-20 & 30:15-20) where, in a series of enormously long and rousing addresses, Moses encourages the people of Israel to walk in the Lord's ways. If they do, they will be blessed in the land they are about to enter.

Finally in the Gospel we have an example of walking in the light when Jesus chose to help a person in trouble immediately, instead of waiting until it was "lawful" to do so. Jesus was not a rebel for the sake of rebellion. He respected the Law when it was good and holy. He walked a free man in the light.

Lord we believe You are the way, the light, and the truth to be followed.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, firm in their faith, Christians may be eager to dialogue with those who belong to another religious tradition.
