What kind of twisted mind would use a poor cripple as a foil to find Jesus doing something wrong? The Pharisees had 'planted' the man in the synagogue on a Sabbath day to see if they could accuse Jesus of breaking the law. They knew that Jesus would be likely to heal him. And they were right. It only showed how far apart their thinking was from that of Jesus. For them, keeping the Law was everything; for Jesus, it was bringing healing and wholeness into people's lives that was paramount. There could be no law against that. In living our Christian lives, what do we put first? Various rules and regulations or the real needs of our brothers and sisters? Are we, even as Catholics, self-centred or other-centred?

Fill me, Lord, with Your spirit of love and compassion.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That, firm in their faith, Christians may be eager to dialogue with those who belong to another religious tradition.
