The Gospel reading speaks strongly of the need to examine oneself before one condemns another. It calls for self-criticism which is an essential element for growth. In fact self-forgiveness is necessary for 'not judging others'. This reading also entails the command to 'forgive' those who have wronged us. When there is such an act of 'forgiving' and 'giving', one can expect an incomparable generosity from God.
The unconditional love of God for us constantly reminds us of the need to 'forgive' from our hearts. It challenges us to go beyond ourselves and see God in others especially those who hurt us. On the other hand, if the outward movement of 'giving' is not present we will certainly end up as a stagnant sea into which everything flows and from which nothing flows out. "Give till it hurts' is what is asked of us as Christians.
This is the Good News that the world needs today. As Christians, we strive to 'run the race' and to win a wreath that will never wither away. Are we prepared to give our all in order to save even one?
Lord, grant me the grace of forgiveness and to give wholeheartedly especially to those rejected and marginalized in our society.
