Wisdom, one of the essential gifts of the Spirit, is illustrated here in the decision of the Council of Jerusalem. Jesus has unburdened those who came to Him, replacing all their oppressions with His own gentle yoke of love. Here the Church unburdens its new converts from the heavy prescription of the Mosaic Law. They were to observe only the essentials necessary for the times they live in. The hearts of all Christians were thus released to sing the praises of God for all His goodness to them.

Disciples of Jesus were not to be made servants to the Mosaic Law when Jesus had made them friends of God, intimate with the august Trinity. Just as the Father had revealed everything to the Son, so Jesus had done to His disciples. He then commissioned them to go out into the unfertile soil of the world to bring in a harvest for God. The divine love which had sent the Beloved Son to redeem them, was now released among them as their unifying force, thus enabling them to be the presence of Jesus in the world, as He had been the Father's presence to them. Weak human beings were to accomplish in Jesus what was impossible to human nature unaided by grace, namely to love as Jesus loved.

Lord, help us to change to Your ways and not remain idle in our comfort zones.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians may live their Sundays more truly as days of the Lord dedicated in a special way to God and their neighbour.
