Moses had been the great hero of his people the Israelites. He had resisted Pharaoh to his face, demanding he release the people in the name of God. He had led them out of slavery from Egypt and in the desert he was God's instrument for a covenant with the people. Now near death he knew that it was not to be his joy and privilege to lead the people into the Promised Land. That destiny was to fall to Joshua. Somehow, Moses understood that God's plan, although not in accord with his preference, was best. Not concerned with being recognized as of the greatest prophets among God's people, like a little child he was docile to God's will.

According to Jesus in the Gospel, to be a child means not 'acting great' towards others. Jesus also instructs us not to be preoccupied with ranking ourselves but to be like Him, humble and generous. He is always full of compassion and love for His fellowmen. So let us imitate Jesus by extending our personal care and concern towards those who are in need.
