Jeremiah graphically describes the word of God as a "fire burning in my heart". His starting point for this affirmation is the suffering which his role as a prophet has brought him and his desire to abandon that role. None of us are in the same position as Jeremiah: we have not been called to be prophets nor have we suffered for the word of God. Nevertheless, Jeremiah's words are a vehicle for God's revelation and so they speak to us in our own circumstances. It is possible for us also, in a positive way, to experience the word of God as a fire burning in our hearts. Perhaps reflecting on Jeremiah's words could engender in us a greater passion for our religion - not of course in any fanatical way but in the way many great saints were consumed by a fervent desire for the things of God. There is an ordinary human desire to share with others the great good things that happen in our lives. By meditative prayer, we can come to a deeper appreciation of the splendour of the truth of our religion, and this appreciation will deepen our zeal for sharing the truth of our faith with others.

Father, enkindle within our hearts an ever greater love for the truth which You have revealed to us in Your Son Jesus Christ.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
