In Zephaniah, we see here a picture of the destructive effects of disobedience towards Yahweh on the community: oppression, rebellion and defilment. Disobedience breaks God's heart because He knows the evil consequences upon our lives. In love, God disciplines our disobedience in order to bring us into His favour and blessings. His purifying discipline is meant to bring about repentance, reconciliation and restoration for our ultimate good.
Yet, our obedience is at best like that of the first son, a matter of the heart and not of the lips. Has it not been said that action speaks louder than words? So, we pat ourselves on the back ... "But I will leave within you the meek and humble, who trust in the name of the Lord" (Zep. 3:12). What would please God the Father more is when we confess with our lips what we believe in our hearts!
Father God, we want to be Your obedient children, pliable in Your hands to do Your holy will.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
