After all that Joseph had been through years before, you could hardly blame him for not quite trusting his brothers. He definitely put them through considerable hardship (not to mention mileage) to satisfy himself that his father Jacob was still alive. The brothers, now older and wiser of course, felt that they were being punished by God for the wrong that they had done to Joseph in past times, but Joseph assured them that God was working even through his trickery to ensure that they and their father would be well cared for in that time of famine.
Jesus tells His new emissaries that they, like infant Israel, will have their needs provided for as they proclaim the Kingdom. The people to whom they minister will become the instruments of Providence on their behalf.
Lord, You are a caring God. You have helped us in many ways.
