God keeps promises long before the meeting of Abraham with God's messengers in the first reading today! God had promised him descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky. The years went by. She was now well past the child-bearing age. How would God keep the promise of descendants? Then the visit related in today's reading. Within the year Sarah gave birth to Isaac. God had kept His promise.
In the responsorial psalm for today we pray Mary's Magnificat. God had also made a great promise to Mary. She would bear a Son even though she was a virgin. God kept His promise, and Jesus was born. In this song Mary sings of all the promises that God had kept - the Saviour, the Messiah, all the promises made to Abraham.
In the Gospel Jesus promises the centurion, "Your servant boy will get well." And he did. Jesus kept His promise. Jesus also promises us that He "will be with you always" (Mt. 28-20), and He keeps His promises.
Lord, let me always proclaim Your greatness with my whole being.
