At his request "Lord that I may see" the blind beggar receives his sight. He had been waiting so long, had often been over-looked in the crowd. We can imagine his joy when Jesus calls him personally and asks him "What do you want me to do for you?"

The blind man is very clear what he wants. His blindness has kept him isolated and begging for a living. He has missed out on so much that now he appreciates even more the gift he has received. Not only does he receive his sight but, he is called personally by Jesus. He now no longer needs his cloak but leaves his old ways behind and follows Jesus on the way. We can imagine the joy in his heart as he goes along with new eyes to behold the beauty of all that God has made. He is no longer alone on the journey and now his life has a purpose and a goal.

Sometimes we too lose sight of our goal in life. Our journey is often blurred and like the beggar man we become immersed in our work and our own immediate goals and forget the call to follow Christ. Perhaps today's reading is a call to look into our own lives. Where are we on the journey? Do we have time to stop and appreciate the wonder and beauty of all that God has made? Maybe we need to listen to Jesus as He puts the question to us today "What do you want me to do for you?"
