Zaccheus goes beyond his contracted identity and in doing so, he discovers that there is more to Zaccheus than what he had believed of himself. Jesus too had the courage to break through the barrier of religious prejudices which had kept Zaccheus too small to be noticed by a society which graded people (which still grades people) according to their profession or status in life.

The initiative of Jesus to break into the normal everyday life of Zaccheus touched him to the core. His inner being was transformed; he received salvation. He became a new creation (2 Cor. 5:17). Zaccheus had had only one priority at the moment in his life: to see Jesus. And the God of surprises invites Himself to his house for dinner. Zaccheus who is beside himself with joy, discovers that there is indeed a larger place for him in God's world than he would ever had imagined. This prompts him to a great generosity and spaciousness of heart. He lays bare his entire being before the Lord. The call to discipleship came within the framework of his profession as tax-collector, a profession that was despised by society, for various cultural and religious restrictions of the time.

It is at the heart of this world that we live discipleship. It is here where we are placed that God comes to meet us, as long as we have that desire to meet Him. How we keep this flame alive always should be our concern and priority.

Come Lord Jesus!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That married people may imitate the example of conjugal holiness shown by so many couples in the ordinary conditions of life.
