There is a striking contrast between the two stories in today's readings. In one case, a woman is accused of adultery but she is innocent; in the other the woman is obviously guilty. In one story the woman's accusers are wicked men who want to take revenge on a woman who refuses to be unfaithful to her husband. In the other, the accusers are men who regard themselves as models of observance. In the first story the judge is Daniel who sentences the wicked men to death. In the other the Pharisees are also ready to condemn the woman to death by stoning. Jesus, however, gives the guilty woman the opportunity to change her life and turn her back on her sin. If I had been present in either situation, how would I have acted? Especially since there may have been situations when I myself should have been judged guilty. When faced with immorality and sin, am I a Pharisee or do I try to follow the Way of Jesus?

Teach me, Lord, Your compassion.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
