It is striking in the Gospel that the first people to see the Risen Jesus are the women and not the men disciples. One very good reason is that it was the women who, with Mary, faithfully stood by the cross of Jesus to the very end. The men had all without exception fled. Their leader had three times denied he ever had anything to do with Jesus. When the women see Jesus, they cling to Him fearing He may leave them again. But there is no need because from now on He is going to be with them "till the end of time". Instead, they are to become evangelisers and missionaries - "Go and tell my brothers to meet me in Galilee." Galilee is their home, where they were born, where they live, where they work. And that is where they are to spread the Good News about Jesus. And it is where we, too, are to proclaim Christ in all our words, in our actions, in the quality of our relationships with others, making a difference in other people's lives - and in our own.
Help us, Jesus, to put into action what we promised in our Baptism.
