"He that is mighty has done great things for me". Mary was chosen by the Father to be the Mother of His Son. She was prepared for such an exalted office by divine power. On her part Mary had all the qualities of the best of mothers and besides she had the submission of will to the Father so much treasured by Christ. As Christ atoned for the disobedience of creatures by always doing what pleased the Father, so Mary's desire to be the handmaid of the Lord made her a more fitting mother of the Son.
When God rewards He does so magnificently. Since Christ's victory over sin and over death - the companion of sin - restored the relationship between God and His creatures so Mary is rewarded by sharing in the same triumph. As she suffered the pain of loss in seeing her Son die so she would experience the joy of His resurrection and be admitted to the home of glory where every tear would be wiped away. Millions would honour her who had gone unrecognized in the house of the carpenter. In Nazareth she was given no worldly honours; now she would be recognized as Queen of all those who followed her Son.
Mother of God, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.
