Our first weekday Gospel for Advent centres on the faith of the centurion, a Gentile. He had the faith to recognize Jesus' power to heal his paralyzed servant, and he was humble enough to realize his need for Jesus. Jesus was greatly astonished by this faith and humility. It was the man's faith and purity of heart that enabled him to recognize God's grace.

We are greatly reminded that the Kingdom of God belongs to those, Jew or Gentile, who are humble and faithful. If we pray for the coming of Jesus and believe that He does come to heal the human race paralyzed by sin and suffering, our wounds can all be healed.

During Advent, let us prepare our hearts, so that the coming of Jesus may heal our wounds and assuage our disappointments. Let us consider our awareness of Jesus and our need for Him. He cannot impose His healing power and grace on anyone, but we can freely admit our need for Him and ask for His help.

May almighty God grant us the wisdom to be aware of our needs, so that we may humbly invite Jesus to heal us.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christ, meek and humble of heart, may inspire those responsible for nations to use power wisely and responsibly.
