Through a cleverly disguised story, Nathan is able to elicit the intended response from David. He does not run away from his sinful state but admits his offence, which he recognises as a sin against God. He makes no excuses but is ready to face the wrath of God. Upon hearing that the innocent child has to die, he pleads with the Lord. He mourns for his sin while pleading with God. David demonstrates an attribute of true repentance. He abandons all his kingly pomp and glory and puts on not only mourning attire, but also an inner humility.

In David's story we see that all that glitters around me is not important. Somehow he seemed to have been side-tracked in life and allowed his relationship with God to grow cold, no longer being able to recognize his descent into sin.

Somehow this 'storm' in his life which marks his downfall is also what he needs to get back on track to put his life in right relationship with God. In a sense what might have seemed to be a stumbling block, effectively becomes a stepping stone!

For us then, we should freely let go of all that becomes a barrier between ourselves and God. There needs to be some form of 'checks and balances' in life to help us see where we truly stand before God. Yes, we will sometimes fall, but when that happens, let us not give in to despair. Instead let us own up to our faults before God and have faith in His love and mercy.

Lord, do not spurn my humbled, contrite heart.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
