Paul, writing to the Philippians, advises them to allow this grace to work in them and to go in the direction of Christ's model of living as a Christian. He implores them with tears to be transmuted by the grace of the salvific power of Christ, to allow Christ to reveal Himself anew in their bodies and souls. In other words, their faith in Christ, their passion for Him should take them in a direction totally different from those who could not accept the cross of Christ, but who kept on harping on non-essentials like dietary laws and circumcision: - .. they make foods their gods...the things they think important are earthly things." (Phil:18-19). Their own direction should be of the same, not just similar, mind as Jesus Christ's.
The dishonest steward, in Luke's Gospel account of the parable, takes his passion for money-minding in a lowly direction when his master dismisses him from his job. Unscrupulously, he finds a way to safeguard his own future at the expense of his master. In 16:8, his effective method and resolute action are commended by Jesus, but the commendation is restricted to the cleverness of worldly people in their dealings with one another.
In contrast, Jesus says, "the children of light" that is the Christian disciples may lack that passion and concern for their eternal salvation.
Lord, grant us the grace to recognise and act resolutely in the correct direction of our passion for Christ and the Kingdom of God. Amen.
