In the parable of the Unprofitable Servant we are made aware that God gifts us purely out of grace and not because we deserve it. We have no rights before God - we can't even claim salvation for it is not a reward for tasks we have accomplished faithfully and well. Salvation is pure gift!
So we cannot think in terms of a "credit balance" in our relationship with God. When we have been enabled to carry out our tasks loyally, we continue to be humble under the profound realization that all our love, strength, time and faithful service rightly belong to the Lord. Just the privilege of being allowed to serve Him is enough reward.
Love is the basis of all we do and in love there is always a sense of not having done enough. The Hindu is taught "Nishkama Karma" that is doing ones duty without expectation of the fruits thereof. St Paul had advised the first Christians to put on the mind of Christ who though He was Son became a slave, a servant to all. And Jesus Himself described His ministry as, "I am among you as one who serves!" Humility is the hallmark of a true Christian.
"Jesus meek and humble of heart make my heart like yours."

Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
