"Anyone who is not against us is for us". With these kinds of people there may still be some disagreements, but dialogue is possible. How about the author of "The Da Vinci Code"? There is no common field for dialogue, because he lacks honesty, the first condition for dialogue. The book claims to be fiction but it is not presented as fiction; the author states that all descriptions of art, architecture, documents and secret rites are true; but ask any serious historian, and you will see that the book is full of errors of art, history, religion and culture. In the name of Jesus one cannot distort the true Jesus that far; so they are against Jesus and against us. What motivation, other than hatred, can lie behind this? Well, money is a strong temptation. In three years the novel has sold 40 million copies, the bestseller of the decade! And the film is expected to reach 800 million people! What a big rise in the assets of Hollywood! In evaluating Jesus in monetary terms they have been a bit more generous than Judas! But the higher you evaluate Him in commercial terms, the more sinful is the blasphemy. There is a long way to go before finding a common ground for dialogue. Meanwhile, what to do? Pray for them - and for ourselves!
Father, give us the courage to be honest at all times, thus proclaiming Jesus as the Way, Truth and Life.
