In the arrest of Peter and John we see for the first time the persecution which at times results from the proclamation of the Good News. This is living proof that Christians are called, in reality, to live the life Christ lived. In the life of the Christian, the mystery of the cross can never be excluded. Our faith, hope and love are founded on the cornerstone which was rejected. Each of us in our own lives must come to terms with the Christ truth, that in dying we are born to new life in Christ Jesus.
After a frustrating night of hard work for the disciples and with little to show for it, the Lord comes. With the light of a new day Jesus comes bringing words of encouragement and food for the hungry. There are times in our lives when all seems to be darkness and nothing seems to be turning out right. At such times let us turn in loving faith to Jesus. Like St Peter let us throw ourselves totally into the arms of Jesus. He is always there with words of encouragement and food for the journey. It is during such moments of darkness, when we place ourselves totally in the arms of Jesus, that we discover the true meaning of the words of St John, "It is the Lord".
Lord, help us to recognize You as the Lord, even in the midst of trials and difficulties.
