Today's Gospel passage is a further reminder that we must not be like the man in last week's Gospel who, with his barns full, put his feet up to enjoy a life of leisure. Little did he realise he would die that night - leaving all his wealth behind. It would not help him one bit. Our life, as the Second Reading suggests, is like that of Abraham. It is a journey into the unknown and no amount of precautions or insurance can take away all uncertainty. Life is a pilgrimage. It keeps moving. We would like to have gilt-edged securities for ourselves and our Christian faith does offer us a secure insurance plan. A life lived in love and service for the Kingdom of God, for a city - a society of justice and peace - designed and built by God. It is in doing this that we amass real wealth not only for ourselves but for others as well. By living like this, we are ready, at any time, to meet our Lord and Saviour. And when we do meet him we will know that all along we had lived with him in those we loved and served during our pilgrimage.
Come, you that are blessed by my Father! As often as you did it to the least of my brothers and sisters you did it to me.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
