The Gospel of this first Sunday of the Church year traditionally repeats the warnings of the last Sunday of the previous year, namely, a reminder to be ready for the end time. In practice, of course, we are not likely to see the 'end time' but we certainly will see our own end time and it is vitally important to be ready for it when it comes - as it certainly will. And the best way to be ready is to welcome the Lord every day of our lives, both in the people we meet and in all the experiences of our daily lives. Then, when Jesus does call us, it will be a face to face meeting of old friends. In order to do that we should follow the advice of the First Reading which is much more cheerful. The 'Temple of Jacob', of course, where all people should go, for us is the Risen Jesus. We go to him so that "he may teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths". And, if we keep doing that, we will enter a world of peace and harmony with war and violence set aside. Yes, let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.
I rejoiced when I heard them say, 'Let us go to God's house'.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
