"Then the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all people shall see it together, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." It is with faith that we view liberation/salvation/redemption as direct intervention of God in the personal history of peoples. The passing power of humanity is contrasted with the unshakeable Word of God. The power of the Babylonians, which had been so great, had now faded like the grass of the field! God is with His people not only with power - to destroy and rebuild - but also with loving care ¡K "like a shepherd feeding his flock. Gathering lambs (little ones) in his arms, holding them against his breast and leading to their rest the mother ewes." (40:11).
What a marvelous image of our God is given here in Isaiah. Jesus takes us a step further in introducing the image of a God who is thoroughly delighted in finding the one who is lost - astray and in terrible distress. So many 'little ones' are around us today and God doesn't want to lose even a single one. Let's do a little 'searching' for the lost and lonely and delight the heart of our God today!
Lord, we pray, that as we await your coming among us as a little child, we comfort the lost and lonely in our midst.
