"If the Lord does not build the dwelling, in vain do the builders labour" (Psalm 127:1). The truth of this thought comes across in David's desire to build a dwelling for the Ark of the Covenant and in Nathan's original acquiescence in the plan. Even chosen kings and prophets sometimes must be prepared to put aside their own plans and pay more attention to the voice of the Lord. A house for the Ark of the Covenant was part of a much wider plan of salvation than wither David or Nathan could foresee. David would build a house for the Lord for that was not God's desire and so would have been in vain. The book of Chronicles tells us that God rejected David's plan because David had spilled so much blood in battle. Rather, the Lord would build a house and establish a dynasty for David in a much more profound and divine sense. The Kingship of David would find its true meaning in the Kingship of Jesus, and so the house which God would build would be the Church, where Jesus is King and Shepherd, Prophet and Teacher, Priest and Sacrifice.

Lord Jesus, grant that, in union with you, I may dwell in the house of our Father in heaven forever and ever.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That human society may be solicitous in the care of all those stricken with AIDS, especially children and women, and that the Church may make them feel the Lord's love.
