A reminder today of one of the great Lenten motifs: "A man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God". The power of God's word is underlined in the first reading, which is generative and productive; for the Lord says it "shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose", (Is. 55:11). It builds a bond of relationships. It establishes a mission in one's life and gives direction. The Lord's Prayer, then, is a summary of all of our desires that leads towards God.
The Lord's Prayer is a word of God: Jesus is God's definitive Word, and the Prayer is nothing other than the distilled expression of His attitudes and aspirations. It is also the fulfilment, in that the praying of it restores those who pray to loving dependence on Abba. This dependence on Abba means following Christ and being open to the Spirit. This is the source of inspiration for seeking God in all things.
Father, we look towards You in Your Son's prayer. Help us to find You in all things. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
