Today we meet one of the most beautiful people in the Old Testament. Joseph, the second youngest son of Jacob, had been sold into slavery by his brothers who were jealous of him. In the meantime, a severe famine had struck the region and Egypt, through the foresight of Joseph, now only second in rank to the Pharaoh, had plenty of food. Jacob's sons went there in search of food and were brought into the presence of Joseph, whom they did not recognise. Before giving them food, he insisted they bring their youngest brother, Benjamin, on their next trip and leave another brother behind as a hostage. In the end, Joseph can no longer hide his identity and breaks down in their presence. The brothers, convinced their brother was long dead, are speechless. He forgives what they had done because he sees in all that had happened the finger of God to save them from starvation and death. Let us today recall the number of times God has helped us in unexpected ways and be ready to forgive.
Remember the wonders the Lord has done!
