What a striking contrast we are presented with today. In the first reading Tobit is physically blinded and yet his spiritual sight is still so sharp as to prompt him to question whether the young goat brought by his wife has been obtained lawfully or not. And he questions even when he's finding it difficult to make ends meet, even in the midst of his material poverty. On the other hand, Jesus' adversaries in the gospel may all be physically sighted, yet their jealousy renders them spiritually blind and prevents them from truly seeking an answer to the question they pose to Jesus. In their concern with trapping the Lord, they fail to see their own spiritual destitution. They fail to see that they are the ones who need to closely examine their relationships with Caesar and with God. And in His response to His opponents, Jesus highlights the one thing that separates them from someone like Tobit. They are unconcerned with wholeheartedly giving to God whatever belongs to God, even as Tobit trusts in God with a firm heart. At the end of the day, the difference lies in where they've planted their hearts.

Lord, help us always to be faithful to Your love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
