Christ we believe came to bring us new life, to reconcile us to one another and to His Father. It must, then, have been a source of great disappointment to Him that His influence on one of His select band of apostles was meeting with failure. Christ had pardoned the woman accused of adultery and set her on a path of hope. He had won over Zacchaeus, the tax collector, and led him to change his way of life. Judas, however, resisted the appeals of Christ to remain true to his vocation.

It is no reflection on Christianity that in the Gospel accounts each time Judas is mentioned he is pointed out as "the one who betrayed Him." This honest reporting shows that Christ came into a real world of people who needed Him. Christ offers a life line to everyone in difficulty but we must grasp the line if we wish to be saved.
