Why was Zacchaeus so anxious to catch a glimpse of Jesus as He passed by? Is it possible that Zacchaeus did not wish to come face to face with Jesus? He was well aware of the remarks made by the people of Jericho about his wealth and the way he had acquired it. Perhaps a feeling of guilt was already troubling him and he was wondering what he ought to do about his money. Here was Jesus who had already warned people of the danger of riches and did not rely on wealth to influence his followers.

May we presume that Jesus brought matters to a head by accosting Zacchaeus? In any case this highly placed tax collector made a quick decision in the presence of Jesus - to give half of his wealth to the poor and four times over to those he had cheated.

Lord, may those who are fearful and timid pluck up the courage to seek direction in their lives. Grant that those who dare not give time to reflect on matters of conscience resolve to seek guidance. May we all recognize the value of being challenged about the way we live.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That those dedicated to medical research and all those engaged in legislative activity may always have a deep respect for human life, from its beginning to its natural conclusion.
