The readings remind us of two things; first, Christ is our Good Shepherd and we are the sheep of His flock. The shepherd knows his sheep, each and everyone, individually. He attends to them with loving care and concern. He leads them to "green pastures and cool waters" to refresh them. He protects them from the marauding wolves. He gives His life to save them. All these characteristics we find in Christ's relationship with us. The sheep know their shepherd. His voice is familiar to them. They recognize His voice and listen to Him. There is a sense of belonging between the sheep and the shepherd. Are these characteristics found in us? Do we experience a sense of belonging to Him?
Second, today is also known as "Vocation Sunday". In fact, this year, this day is the "World Day of Prayer for vocations", reminding us that we should pray for the Pope, bishops, priests and religious that they remain faithful to the Lord in their vocation and accomplish their tasks with the single-minded purpose of making Jesus known and loved. Do we have a place for them in our prayers? We need more priests and religious. Do we pray for more young people to offer themselves generously to serve the Lord and His people?
Lord God, give us new strength from the courage of Christ our Shepherd.

DAILY OFFERING
|
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
