We continue listening to Jesus speaking to his disciples at the Last Supper. Today he promises to give them peace, his own peace. It is a kind of peace that the world cannot give. For us, Jesus is the Prince of Peace. Yet, earlier in his public life Jesus had told his disciples that he had come not to bring peace but the sword. A contradiction? There are two kinds of peace. For most of us most of the time peace simply means the absence of conflict but that can be very superficial. Underneath, there may be all kinds of anger and hostility. Anyone who follows the Way of Jesus closely is very likely to run into situations where the Way of Love generates anger and hatred and violence. On the surface, there seems to be no peace. But, deep down, for those who are totally with Jesus and know that his Way is the only way, hostility and denunciation cannot disturb the peace that is deep within them. We see that peace in Jesus during his Passion. In the garden he was deeply disturbed and afraid of what was going to happen to him. But after his prayer, he is filled with a deep peace which is with him through the most terrible suffering.

Dear Jesus, make me a channel of your peace.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That Christians, even in the difficult and complex situations of present day society, may not tire of proclaiming with their lives that Christ's resurrection is the source of hope and of peace.
