Following on last Saturday's Gospel, we see Jesus coming under attack from the Scribes.

Basically they make two accusations: He is possessed, not by just any ordinary demon, but by Beelzebul the prince of demons; and it is through the power of the demon in him that he expels evil spirits from others. Jesus easily shows the contradictions in their words. Why would Satan use someone to undo his work? No, if demons are being expelled it is because they are in the presence of Someone stronger - the Son of God himself. But the Scribes do not want to come to the obvious conclusion. And that brings Jesus to their real sin - the sin against the Holy Spirit for which there is no forgiveness.

A sin against the Holy Spirit is directly to oppose God and his teaching, it is to close oneself against the love of God. If that happens, how can God's forgiving love reach that person? They have closed the door and God will not force Himself in. The only solution is to open the door and let Jesus enter and do his work of love and forgiveness. Let it never happen to any of us that we close our hearts to God's love which we have the power to block. In which case, God can only say: "Your will be done." But it is a terrible thing to do.

Jesus says, "I stand at the door and knock." Come, Lord Jesus, come!

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That the Church may strengthen her commitment to full visible unity in order to manifest in an ever growing degree her nature as community of love, in which is reflected the communion of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.
