Our hearts need to be fertile soil which receives the word of God and in due time brings forth much fruit. Human virtues can be considered as fertile soil but to develop virtuous characteristics, we need a disciplined life-style - a life-style with God as the focus of our lives. Only then can grace fill our hearts and the Word of God can take root, grow and develop unhindered.
Whenever we make an effort to be loyal, hardworking, sincere, compassionate and even-tempered, we are imitating Christ - the perfect example. Then we make ourselves into fertile soil in which supernatural virtues can take root. We need to let others know that Christ is alive in us - by our work well done, our sense of commitment in troubled times, by our sense of joy, peace and warmth extended to everyone. We need to behave in such a manner that anyone who meets us will say, "This person is a Christian because he is willing to understand, because he is not a fanatic, because he does not hate, because he is a person of peace and because he knows how to love."
Lord, fill me with Your grace so that I can truly emulate Your virtues and be a reflection of Your light here on earth.
