There is a rather thin line between faith and superstition when looked at superficially. Hence St Paul, in this "fragment" of his original first letter, cautions his recent converts to make no compromise with their previous idolatrous practices. We Christians who live in a predominantly non-Christian environment may be tempted to water down our faith by mingling it with visits to "bomohs", mediums, with the use of charms, auspicious days for joyous celebrations and so on. Such practices only serve to undermine our faith in Christ. Our faith is strengthened by rooting out any attachment to unchristian beliefs or practices. Fidelity to the teaching of the Church is the strongest foundation on which to build our lives. Our constant study should be on how to use profitably the sacraments of faith, liturgical prayer and celebrations, and self denial so as to produce good fruit in abundance.

Lord, teach me how to use the means of holiness bequeathed to Your Church to enable me to grow in the spirit so as to serve You with a healthy mind and body. Amen.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
That those who, because of wars or oppressive regimes, are forced to leave their homes and country may be supported by Christians in the defence and protection of their rights.
