INTENTION : |
That the Pastors of the Church may always be docile to the action of the Holy Spirit in their teaching and in their service to God's people.
|
It is expected that pastors, by the help of grace, continuously progress through the exercise of their ministry. This requires of them an attitude of service marked by personal strength, apostolic courage and abandonment to the inner working of the Holy Spirit. They will therefore strive to adopt a lifestyle which imitates Christ, poor and humble, so that their ministry will be a consistent reflection of Jesus who was close to everyone, from the greatest to the least.
Pastors can be considered genuine ministers of communion and hope for God's people only when they walk in the presence of the Lord. It is not possible to be servants of others unless they are first "servants of God." And they can only be servants of God if they are "men of God." Therefore their existence and their ministry are entirely under the action of the Holy Spirit.
For this reason pastors are called to share the call to holiness proper to all the faithful. They must therefore cultivate a life of prayer and profound faith, and put all their trust in God in docile obedience to the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Through the Holy Spirit, the love of God which is in their hearts, they will always find the right ways to touch the hearts of men and women today and an ability to love and to find the best and beautiful ways to express that love.
