Today we come to the last of the Parables of the Kingdom. The Kingdom contains people of all kinds - good, bad and indifferent. And it will be like that to the very end. There can be a temptation on the part of some to separate the 'good' people from the 'others', for Catholics who regard themselves as more observant avoid the company of less observant members of the Church, not to mention those who are not its members. This parable is a bit like the earlier one of the weeds and wheat growing up together. We cannot really know who are the real 'Kingdom' people till the very end. Someone who is not behaving well now may undergo a radical conversion while someone who does seem to be a model Christian right now may fall away completely. The judgement can only be made at the very end. And that judgement primarily depends on where our heart lies at that moment. Let us not worry about the end or whether we will persevere. Just concentrate on being with God here and now and everything is taken care of. And to be with God is to live a life of selfless love, service and sharing of all I have and am.
