A joy shared is a joy doubled. 'Seeing' and joy are central in today's readings. When Tobias' mother sees that her son has returned home safely from the journey, she runs to him and embraces him in great joy. Tobias then applies ointment to the eyes of Tobit and his father regains his sight! His father's reaction is to weep tears of joy and praise God. This tearful joy is a sign of the presence of God.

Today Jesus quotes the psalms and speaks directly to the crowds. He helps the people to see that the title, "Son of David", means more than that the Messiah is a physical descendant of David. The Messiah is more than a long-awaited political successor to a throne. The Messiah is Lord of all, even of King David.

Jesus inspires the crowd to see the meaning of Scripture in a fuller light. The people take delight in hearing him speak.
