In todays Gospel we see Jesus sending His Apostles on a mission. This mission is to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal. Jesus gives them power and authority over all devils and diseases; however even the best armour or equipment is of no avail, when someone doesn't know how to use it. So Jesus gives also instruction to His disciples so that they may make their mission fruitful. There are three important points of Jesus' guidance.
The first is that the Apostles cannot take anything with themselves - neither staff, nor haversack, nor bread, nor money, nor spare tunic. They must be poor and humble. They must trust and rely totally on their Master. He will provide to their needs. His providence will support them everywhere.
The second point of Jesus' instruction is that His disciples carrying their mission should see people they meet as given to them by God. The Apostles may not choose between a better or worse household, but the house they enter is the one where the Lord wants them to proclaim the Gospel.
The last point of Jesus' guidance tells us that the Apostles must be truthful to their mission and they cannot compromise the Gospel preaching by political correctness. They must warn people who willingly and knowingly refuse to accept the faith of the danger of eternal condemnation.
Lord, send me on Your mission.
