God's word to Ezekiel concerning the King of Tyre carry strong echoes of the story of Adam and Eve and their fall from God's friendship: "though you are a man and not a god, you consider yourself the equal of God." The devil tempted Eve with similar words: if she and Adam ate the forbidden fruit, "your eyes will be opened and you will be like God [Gen 3:5]. God created us in the divine image and likeness. Hence, even though quite clearly we are not God, we do have a spark of divinity within us. We are human beings but we are called to grow more and more in the image of God in which we have been created.

At creation, God put three desires into our hearts: the desire to be divine, the desire to be immortal, and the desire to be transcendent in every way. By these three desires God continually draws us towards eternal happiness.

The desires themselves are not sinful. Many biblical stories illustrate these three desires and show that the sin consists in trying to attain the desired goal without God. God would fulfil these profound desires of the human heart in the resurrection of Jesus.

Father in Heaven, draw us to Yourself and grant us the grace to surrender in all things to the attraction of Your love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
