Today's Gospel speaks of a dramatic moment in the life of Jesus. He has been teaching the people from a boat (a symbol of the future Church) and then tells his disciples to launch out into the deeper water (a symbol of the world) to catch fish. Peter, the expert, rejects the idea. He knows there are no fish there but, to please the Master, he will let down the nets. They catch so many fish there is no room for them in the boat. Peter is overwhelmed. He knows he is in the presence of a special Power, a Person in whose presence he is not worthy to be. His companions, Andrew, James and John have the same feelings. In fact, they have precisely the qualities needed to join with Jesus in his work to establish the Reign of God in the world. Jesus calls them to be with Him on His mission. And, there and then, they leave all the means of livelihood behind and go with Jesus. They do not know what is ahead of them but they have total faith, total trust in their Lord. Let us ask Jesus for the courage to join them. The world is waiting.

Go away from me, Lord, I am a sinful person! No, on second thoughts, lift me up to be with You.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
INTENTION
