In the Church's calendar, we frequently celebrate two saints together in one feast: Peter and Paul, Cosmas and Damian, Perpetua and Felicity. Thus today, following yesterday's feast of the Conversion of St Paul, we celebrate the feast of two early Christians, two of Paul's disciples, whose names are inseparable. Timothy and Titus are united together both on a human and a divine level. The Apostle Paul was the earthly factor drawing them together. But they were drawn together on the divine level by their love of Jesus and their desire to serve the Kingdom.
We are reminded of the value and blessedness of human companionship in the service of God. In following St Paul, Timothy and Titus began with a human attraction, but did not stop there. Their friendship and collaboration with St Paul drew them close to Jesus. They came to know Christ more clearly, to love Him more dearly, and to follow Him more nearly. God frequently works through other human beings to draw us together and to draw us into greater intimacy with Jesus. Human companionship, friendship, neighbourliness can all be instruments of divine attraction and so of evangelisation.
Father in Heaven, lead us into greater intimacy with Your Son.
