The Ahab - Jezebel story is not pretty or particularly inspiring. Ahab and Jezebel have been guilty of treachery, greed, conspiracy, and theft. But the story does have one small consoling aspect: it is never too late to repent. Even Ahab is shown divine mercy because of his change of heart. No one is beyond redemption.

It is easy to love family, friends, and those who love us in return. No big deal - anyone can do it! Jesus insists that the only way we can stand out as true children of the highest God is to love without conditions or distinctions - our enemies, those who wrong us, and those who are unlovable. We don't necessarily have to like everyone - that is impossible. But loving means care, concern, and kindness. Only then will we be truly different - and truly like God. And this sort of love is exactly what our fearful, wounded, and bleeding world needs most. Let us make a difference this very day by going out of our way to be kind and generous towards those who are most difficult to love. Perfection is another way of saying unconditional and undivided love.

Lord, teach me to love.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.
