"Reversal" is one of the themes of many of the Biblical stories: God reverses someone's bad fortune so that he or she experiences good fortune and blessedness. Reversal often includes the idea of "restoration". Thus in Isaiah's prophecy God will "restore the land", prisoners will hear the words which restore their liberty: "Come out".

The Bible normally uses words such as "salvation", "reconciliation", "justification", "judgement" to describe the life and work of Jesus, but we can equally well use the words "reversal" and "restoration". What God has done for us in Jesus Christ is such a rich and deep mystery that one or two human words can never describe it. Different words reveal different aspects.

Jesus says that the Father "has assigned all judgement to the Son". Perhaps we naturally think of "judgement" as condemnation: the judge sees our sins and condemns us for them. However, that is too narrow a view and quite inadequate, for "judgement" also includes the notion of "justification" or "salvation". Thus, Jesus, the just judge, certainly judges our sins to be evil but by his saving grace reverses the evil we have done and restores us to grace by forgiving us in mercy when we repent.

Lord Jesus, in your mercy, restore in us the divine image and make us true children of our Father in Heaven.

DAILY OFFERING
Eternal Father, I offer You everything I do this day; my thoughts, words, joys and sufferings. Grant that, vivified by the Holy Spirit and united to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, my life this day may be of service to You and to others. I also pray that all those preparing for marriage discover in Sacrament the source of Christ's grace for living a fithful and fruitful love. Amen.

PRAYING WITH THE CHURCH
